Optimism: hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something.
Disclosure: In this series of me sharing my NYC looks, I will also be talking about different things that have been on my heart lately. Okay, carry on..
This week has been a little different for me than any other week. One of the reasons was because a big earthquake happened in my hometown, Mexico City. Most of my family lives down there, so when my mom told me what happened I was immediately sad especially because this earthquake happened on the anniversary of one of the biggest earthquakes in Mexico’s History. It was a tragedy on a very tragic day. So yes, this was a little more personal to me. I thought about being far from my family and not being able to see and be with them in that moment. After that earthquake, there was several more earthquakes that happened within that week which made my mom keep saying that if anything happened to her, that she loved me very much.
I replied, if anything happens to you, we will see each other again. Don’t worry lol. I was in part joking, and wanted to make the situation positive which I also tend to do. However, in that scenario I realized how optimistic I am about everything in my life.
Honestly, I think being a Christian has made me sane about most of the things that happen in the world.
I know that no matter how bad things get, God will always be there for me and my family. I know that no matter if we live or die, I will ultimately see my family again in heaven, in our REAL home. I think knowing that makes me feel very optimistic about the future.
I personally think this is why I am always super positive about everything in my life. I think life is too short, to stress about things that we cannot control. Life is too complicated, for us to make things even more complicated by worrying about things that only God knows the outcome to.
I think most of the time our world chooses to see the negative and dwell in it. They refuse to go on with life because of tragedies that they have gone through which is totally valid, but I think we need to be aware that things are always going to be happening in our world and its our attitude that will change how we get through difficult times.
Personally, I have too much going on to dwell in my feelings when unfortunate circumstances happen in my life. I think it’s okay to be sad, angry, or whatever it is you are feeling but be careful to not dwell in it too long. Negative thoughts spill over into our life and can affect everything about a day. Later on it’s not just a day but a week, and before you know it you are living a negative lifestyle that does not please God. So the more we can practice positivity in our life, the more success, and change we will see in all aspects of life. And no, I am not saying lets be heartless and not care about what happens in our world, God wants us to care and help those in need. However, we should not let these situations happening in the world fog the way go through life, and control our decisions.
Remember: Optimism is a lifestyle, it’s something you have to choose everyday but once you do. Your life will be changed.
Philippians 4:8-9The Message (MSG)
8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
